North Lawndale plan recognized for community engagement

The North Lawndale Quality-of Life Plan was highlighted in Block Club Chicago this week for its efforts to include voices of the community throughout the planning process.

The plan, which was adopted in 2018 and is now being implemented, was a collaborative effort between CMAP's Local Technical Assistance program, the North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council, and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Chicago, was recently recognized with the 2019 Community Outreach Award by the American Planning Association - Illinois chapter.

Imagine a Day Without Water

Clean, safe, and abundant water is a vital resource for our communities' economy, safety, and overall quality of life, but it's often one that is taken for granted. On Wednesday, October 23, the Value of Water Campaign is asking people to "Imagine a Day Without Water," to raise awareness for its importance in our lives. There are several ways to get involved, including social media and educational materials, on the campaign's website.

CMAP continues to work toward implementation of ON TO 2050's goal of an integrated regional approach to water issues. Two key tools in this work are the ON TO 2050 Water Demand Forecast, which shows that the parts of the region that are growing the fastest have potential challenges to their water supply if communities don't plan now, and the ON TO 2050 Urban Flood Susceptibility Index, which identifies priority areas across the region for flood mitigation activities. Both tools were recently featured as part of Crain's Chicago Business special Forum on Water.
