CMAP Weekly Update, 3-15-19

Board and MPO Policy Committee meetings recap

This week, the CMAP Board and Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Policy Committee independently approved the inclusion of the Jackson Park Project and O'Hare Express Project on northeastern Illinois' list of regionally significant projects. At the Wednesday Board meeting, staff provided an update on CMAP's municipal pavement management project. At the Thursday MPO Policy Committee meeting, the committee approved the semi-annual ON TO 2050/Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) conformity analysis and TIP amendments 19-04 and 19-04.1

CMAP working with youth across the region to build leadership skills

In February, CMAP staff participated in a program at Lindblom Math and Science Academy in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, where students developed and presented strategies to address issues facing their communities. Read about the outcomes in this South Side Weekly article. This weekend, CMAP will partner with the University of Illinois at Chicago's College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) on the first-ever, at-capacity Future Leaders in Planning (FLIP) Boot Camp, where high schoolers will learn how to advocate on local matters while building their college resumes and receiving community service hours.
Now in its 11th year, CMAP's FLIP Summer Leadership Development Program is another way high school students from across the region can learn about ways to make northeastern Illinois a better place to live, go to school, work, and play. Participants in the 2019 program will meet with other students from Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties, as well as key regional leaders, to share ideas and plan for a better future. Applications for this free one-week program are now available and are due by Monday, May 20, 2019.

Call for projects closes today

Today is the deadline for completing applications for surface transportation projects that advance the three principles of ON TO 2050 and help communities prosper. Funding for these projects will be distributed through federal sources that CMAP programs: the regional Surface Transportation Program (STP) Shared Fund, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ), and locally programmed Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP-L).
