The Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) recently released Prospering in Place: Linking Jobs, Development, and Transit to Spur Chicago's Economy. It offers strategies to increase location efficiency and support job creation and economic vitality in the region. It specifically builds on GO TO 2040 and aligns with the plan's recommendations to support public transit and coordinate planning for land use, transit, and housing. The CNT analysis seeks to take GO TO 2040 a step further by identifying station areas with short- and long-term growth potential, as well as employment centers with transit needs. The five key recommendations from the report are to identify priority development areas in the region; to align state, regional, and local initiatives in priority areas; to direct funding to priority areas; expand transit; and to fund pre-development costs like land acquisition costs and environmental remediation.
