Reminder: Register now for State of the Region

CMAP's first-ever State of the Region will take place on Thursday, October 7, at 10:00 a.m. The event will include a state of the region address by executive director Erin Aleman and a ceremony for the winners of CMAP's 2021 Regional Excellence Awards.

 

The keynote speech will be delivered by public health expert and medical executive Dr. Suzet McKinney. Dr. McKinney, principal and director of life sciences at Sterling Bay, will discuss how life sciences can provide good-paying jobs and help the regional economy recover from the pandemic.

 

Dr. McKinney previously served as CEO and executive director of the Illinois Medical District (IMD). Prior to leading the IMD, Dr. McKinney served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau of Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response at the Chicago Department of Public Health.

Preventing track tragedies in northeastern Illinois

National Rail Safety Week returns next week, September 20 through September 26, to raise public awareness of rail safety education. Rail Safety Week and other national initiatives have helped reduce train-related collisions substantially over the past 50 years.

 

As the country's freight hub, northeastern Illinois is not immune to rail safety issues. CMAP, in particular, has prioritized 47 rail crossings in need of improvement throughout the region. Our rail-grade crossing video identifies strategies to address these safety challenges and prevent track tragedies.

Provide input on data decisions tool

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is seeking input on a preliminary release of the Data-Driven Decisions Tool, which will help IDOT make investment decisions on capacity projects throughout the state. Please fill out the short survey to provide feedback. An informational webinar will be held on Wednesday, September 29, at 3:00 p.m.

Request for proposals for Illinois Tech Coalition

mHub and the University of Chicago have issued a request for proposals for projects and programs to be included in a $100 million regional proposal for the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration, Build Back Better Regional Challenge. Proposals should help grow the regional clean energy growth cluster. Proposals are due Sunday, September 26, at noon.
