On April 15, 2015, Illinois marked the 101st anniversary of its inaugural Good Roads Day.  In mid-April 1914, Governor Edward F. Dunne "started the herculean task of pulling Illinois out of the mud" with infrastructure funding prompted by the state's new Tice law.  According to the newspaper account, "at least 50,000 residents of northern Illinois" gathered along the Governor's 134-mile route across six counties to celebrate and learn about the state's plans for future road building. Today, capital bills need to be about not just roads, but also transit, bike-ped, and other forms of infrastructure beyond transportation.  CMAP stands behind its principles for a new state capital program, adopted by our Board nearly two years ago.
