The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a report on possible connections between smart growth strategies and the fiscal strength of local governments.  It reviews the latest evidence of the connection between smart growth approaches and the fiscal strength of local governments to help them make decisions about where and how to grow.  The report looks at local government costs and revenues and the ways by which governments can lower the costs and increase revenue.  Major strategies include:

  • Transit connecting homes and jobs
  • Neighborhoods and streets that make walking and biking safe, convenient, and enjoyable
