Mayor, City of Highland Park

Nancy Rotering was the first woman elected mayor of Highland Park in April 2011, and was re-elected in April 2015 and 2019. She served as a Highland Park City Councilman from 2009 to 2011. As mayor, she has made fiscal responsibility, infrastructure, public safety, and community vibrancy her priorities.

Rotering has worked in the private sector for General Motors Corporation and as an attorney at McDermott Will & Emery, as well as in the private sector as a legislative aide to State Representative Karen May. She has served on a broad range of civic and philanthropic commissions, boards and committees including the Illinois Comptroller’s Local Government Advisory Board, U.S. Conference of Mayors, Northwestern University Leadership Council, and the Northwest Municipal Conference Legislative Committee.

Rotering earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Stanford University, an MBA from Northwestern University, and a law degree from the University of Chicago.
