AARP, in partnership with the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute, created the Livability Fact Sheets series to help provide practical assistance and resources for cities and communities nationwide to become safer, healthier, more walkable, and overall more livable for people of all ages.

The series of 11 fact sheets can be used individually or as a collection by community leaders, policy makers, citizen activists, and planning professionals to learn about tools and techniques that help make a city or neighborhood a great place to live. Each is a four-page document that covers a single topic and offers an overview of myths or misconceptions and how to overcome them, specific steps or actions communities can take to implement its tools and principles, and real-life success stories from cities around North America with before and after images of places aforementioned tools and techniques were used, along with additional resources.  The 11 fact sheet topics covered are:

  1. Bicycling
  2. Density
  3. Economic Development
  4. Form-Based Codes
  5. Modern Roundabouts
  6. Parking
  7. Revitalization without Displacement
  8. Road Diets
  9. Sidewalks
  10. Street Trees
