The Transportation Research Board has released the e-circular, "Monitoring Bicyclist and Pedestrian Travel and Behavior."  The circular is intended to chronicle recent advancements in techniques and technology of active transportation monitoring, but it is not meant to be an exhaustive review of the field.  It is written primarily for an audience of practicing engineers, urban planners, transportation researchers, but also may be of use to citizens or advocates interested in developing high-quality data on bicycling and walking in their communities.

The circular identifies and describes a selection of new and innovative techniques in bicycle and pedestrian data monitoring pertaining to both traffic volumes and behavioral data. It also introduces a selection of ongoing projects expected to contribute to the field of bicycle and pedestrian data.
